What "free" means here
A lot of free AI video tools are free until the export button. Then the video gets a watermark, the resolution drops, or a card form appears. Here is exactly what ContentRoof asks of you at each step:
| Step | Do you need an account? |
|---|---|
| Type an idea and get a script | No |
| Edit the script, voice, music, colour theme and drawings | No |
| Watch the preview | No |
| Download the MP4 | A free Google sign-in |
| Caption a clip of your own | A free Google sign-in |
The video you download has no watermark. Nothing is stamped in a corner and no logo is added unless you add your own with the brand kit.
What one sentence turns into
Type "Why the sky is blue" and the app builds the whole video for you:
- A script. AI writes a hook, a few short scenes with one idea each, and an ending. You can edit every word.
- A natural voice. Natural neural voices in every language, with exact timing for every word.
- Word-by-word captions that highlight each word as it is spoken.
- Animated line drawings for every sentence, picked by meaning from about 10,000 open-source drawings. Each one traces itself on as its word is spoken.
- Motion graphics when the script calls for them: a globe that flies to places you name, counters for big numbers, rising or falling charts, timelines and clocks for years, two-sided layouts for comparisons, and a powers-of-ten zoom for scale.
- Original music generated for the video and ducked under the voice, with the audio mastered to -14 LUFS.
Here is the start of the kind of script you get back, in the app's script format:
# hook
The sky isn't blue because of the ocean. It's blue because sunlight *scatters*.
# headline: White light is every colour
Sunlight looks white, but it's every colour of the rainbow mixed together.
Each # line starts a scene. Words between *stars* are highlighted on screen.
Why there is no stock footage
Stock-footage generators match keywords to clips, so a sentence about the heart can end up over a couple holding hands. ContentRoof doesn't use stock footage or AI-generated images at all. It draws. When nothing in the drawing library fits a sentence, the narration appears as large kinetic typography next to the video's main subject. A wrong picture is never shown.
Formats from the same script
- Vertical 9:16 for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels.
- 16:9 for YouTube, with the narration on the left and the animation on the right.
- Square 1:1 for feeds.
You also get a thumbnail export (the opening title card) and a carousel export with one slide per scene.
How to judge any free AI video generator
Even if you never use ContentRoof, check these before you commit time to a free tool:
- Export a test video first. Look for a watermark, a lower resolution or a length cap.
- Check how relevant the visuals are. Pause on three random sentences and ask whether the picture matches what is being said.
- Listen to the numbers. Years and decimals are where voices slip.
- Try your language. Right-to-left scripts like Urdu and Arabic often come out in the wrong order or font.
- See what you can edit. If you can't change one scene's picture without starting again, small fixes become expensive.
How it works
- Type your ideaOne sentence is enough, in any of the 10 languages. Pick a writer mode if you want a lesson, data story, product video, listing, news recap or how-to.
- Read and edit the scriptChange any line, highlight words with stars, or swap the drawing for a scene. The preview updates as you type.
- Watch the previewChoose the voice, music, colour theme, speed and format, and watch the whole video play in your browser.
- Sign in and downloadA free Google sign-in unlocks the MP4 download. An export takes about 1 to 3 minutes for a 1-minute video.
