Videos that draw themselves, from your script

The drawn-explainer look without drawing, searching or timing anything yourself. To be clear up front: these are line drawings that trace themselves on a dark, coloured background, not a white board with a hand holding a marker.

What this is, and what it isn't

Classic whiteboard animation shows a hand sketching black marker drawings on a white board. People like it because a drawing that appears line by line holds attention: the eye follows the pen.

ContentRoof keeps that part and drops the manual work. Each sentence of your script gets one or more line drawings that trace themselves on, timed to the moment the narrator says the word. What it doesn't do:

If you need a literal hand on a white board, a dedicated whiteboard editor is the better fit. If what you want is a drawn explainer you can make from a sentence, read on.

How the drawings are chosen

A multilingual AI model reads every sentence, finds the things worth drawing (nouns and short phrases like "immune system" or "red blood cell") and matches their meaning against about 10,000 open-source drawings. It also checks each match against the whole sentence, so "the seat of the soul" doesn't become a car seat.

Then the drawings are laid out: one large drawing for a single idea, several orbiting a main one, steps joined by arrows, two sides for a comparison, or a timeline when the sentence names years. When nothing fits, the narration shows as big kinetic typography with the video's main subject. A wrong picture is never shown.

On top of that, 26 hand-made animated illustrations (a black hole, DNA, an atom, a galaxy, a prism, a brain, a heart, a fractal snowflake, a city skyline, a crowd and more) appear when the script is about them.

Who uses this style

How it works

  1. Type a topic or paste a scriptOne sentence is enough. The AI writes a script with one idea per scene, or uses yours as it is.
  2. Let the drawings be pickedEach sentence is matched by meaning to the drawing library, and the lines trace on as the words are spoken.
  3. Adjust any sceneSwap a scene's drawing, change the layout, the colour theme, the voice or the music. The preview updates as you type.
  4. Download the videoSign in with Google for free and download the MP4 in vertical, 16:9 or square, without a watermark.

Questions

Is this a real whiteboard animation?

Not literally. There is no white board and no drawing hand. It is the drawn-explainer style: line drawings that trace themselves on a dark, coloured background as the narration reaches them.

Can I change the background colour?

Yes. Choose another colour theme, or set your brand colours with the brand kit. The videos are designed for dark backgrounds.

Can I pick the drawing for a scene myself?

Yes. Every scene's drawing is editable, and you can name the things to draw in the script with draw:.

Does it work in languages other than English?

Yes. The model that picks the drawings is multilingual, so Urdu, Hindi, Arabic and the other supported languages get drawings matched to their own words.

Do I need to upload images?

No. The drawings come from the built-in library of about 10,000 open-source drawings plus 26 hand-made illustrations.
