What a good YouTube description does

The description has two readers: people deciding whether to watch, and YouTube's search, which reads it to understand the video. Only the first line or two show before "more", so the first line matters most. The descriptions this tool writes follow a simple shape:

  1. A first line that says what the viewer gets, with the words people would search for. "Why the sky is blue: sunlight, scattering and the colour you never see" works harder than "Hey guys, welcome back".
  2. A short summary. For a Short, one or two sentences. For a long video, a paragraph and a few lines with the key points.
  3. One natural call to action, such as a question to answer in the comments.
  4. A few hashtags. Three to five specific tags, plus #Shorts for a Short. YouTube can show the first three next to the video title, so put the most specific ones first.

Paste the script for the best result

The tool can only describe what it knows. If you paste the script, the description will name the actual points of the video. If you only type a topic, it stays general rather than inventing details. It never adds links, timestamps or offers you didn't give it, so add your own links (your website, related videos, sources) after you paste it into YouTube Studio.

Example

For a Short about why the sky is blue, a result looks like this:

Why is the sky blue? Sunlight scatters off air, and blue light scatters the most.
The same effect paints sunsets red, when light travels through more air.
Which everyday mystery should we explain next? Tell us in the comments.

Descriptions in Urdu, Hindi and other languages

Pick the language and the whole description comes back in its own script. For an Urdu or Hindi channel, a description in the viewer's language reads more naturally than English and helps the right audience find the video. Hashtags stay in the language people actually search in.

Make the video and the description together

If you haven't made the video yet, ContentRoof can do both. Type one sentence and it writes the script, records a natural voice, adds word-by-word captions and animated drawings, and then its post kit writes the YouTube title, description and tags, plus TikTok and Instagram captions, from the same script.

Questions

Is the YouTube description generator free?

Yes, free and without sign-up, with a fair-use limit per hour.

How many hashtags should a YouTube description have?

Three to five specific ones is plenty. YouTube can show the first three next to the title, and using too many can make a video look spammy. The tool writes 3 to 5.

Will it add links or timestamps?

No. It only uses what you paste, so it never invents links, timestamps or offers. Add your own links after you paste the description into YouTube Studio.

Does it work for Shorts?

Yes. Choose YouTube Short and you get a shorter description with #Shorts in the hashtag line.
